Life Story for Lueretha Patterson

Lueretha L. Wilson-Patterson, was born May 25, 1920 in Cumberland County North Carolina the third oldest of seven children born to the late Katie Hill-Wilson and Henry Allen Wilson. She departed this life on Thursday, January 2, 2014.

Lueretha was educated in the North Carolina public school system receiving her high school diploma from Armstrong High School. At an early age she accepted the teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and joined the fellowship of Baptist Union Baptist Church of Hope Mills, North Carolina. As an adult she joined the fellowship of Peace Memorial Christian Church under the spiritual guidance of Bishop F.J Matthews where she was an active member until she relocated to Philadelphia in 1970. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star while living in North Carolina. Lueretha was married to the late Walter Patterson who preceded her in October 1986.

Lueretha enjoyed helping others. She was always available to lend a helping hand to anyone in need often using her own resources. She loved to laugh and prepare big meals for anyone coming to visit whether they were staying one day or one week. Lueretha had a good sense of humor and multiple funny stories, and colorful saying that she would add to her language to ensure she was getting her point across. Many of her stories will live on through her children and grandchildren.

In 1994 Lueretha joined the fellowship of Providence Baptist Church where she attended Sunday services and computer classes until dementia and Alzheimer''s disease robbed her of her ability to participate.

Lueretha was a good daughter, sister, aunt, wife, mother and friend. She will always be remembered by her remaining siblings, Anne Williams of Philadelphia and Bulah Wilkins of Fayetteville, North Carolina, her daughters Carla Wilson of Philadelphia and Barbara Hynson (Bernard) of New Jersey, grandsons, Brian Wilson (Vickie), Anthony Wilson and Brent Wilson (Erika), extended grandchildren Bernard E. Hynson and Pamela Crook (Ray), great grandchildren Kendall Wilson, Anthony Wilson II, Astazia Wilson (Tay) and Eryn Wilson, extended great grandchildren Chantel Carter, Marquis Hynson, Raynell Crook and many, many nieces nephews, relatives and friends.

She is truly missed by all of us who love her, but we take comfort in knowing that she did a real good job in loving us, teaching us and caring for us while she was able, and that she now rests in peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
